About TATO

TATO is a Membership Based Organisation (MBO) representing its members as part of important players  tourism industry of Tanzania.

Tanzania Association of Tour Operators was established in 1983 to promote and represent collectively Tour Operators in the country and at the international level.

The association was established at the peak of economic crisis in Tanzania. At that time economy was centrally planned and dominated by public sector while the private sector was small and struggling.

The Purpose of TATO was considered important as united front to advance the interest of the private Tour Operators by engaging the Government through dialogue in promotion of Tourism, at the same time acting to promote high Tourist service delivery, both nationally and internationally.

To promote Mutual expansion of tourism sector both internally and at the international level by opening avenues of Marketing in relation with other bodies such as TTB and Ministry of Tourism.

Currently TATO is composed of more than 320 members with 189 paid up members as listed in this website.

To become a strong and respected association that fully meets the needs of its members.

  1. To promote and facilitate members to provide marketable tourist services into local and world market.
  2. To act as a link between the members, government and its institutions in promotion of tourism in Tanzania.
  3. To coordinate the members and help them in all technical matters pertaining Tourism both at national and International Level.
  4. To promote tour operators ability to interact with community at large and to protect interest of individual tourists.
